Art Threat, an amazing online journal of culture and politics, has posted an interview with Kevin Yuen Kit Lo, a member of the Imaging Apartheid collective. In light of the interest garnered from the interview, we've decided to open up submissions one last time! The deadline is now June 20th, 2011. We're looking forward to seeing your work!
Thanks to everyone for their amazing posters!!! We're so excited to go through these!!! We will contact selected designers soon for high res files. For those that still want to submit something, please do, the official deadline is over, but if your work is really exceptional, we *might* still consider it.
To all graphic designers and visual artists in support of the Palestinian struggle for freedom, the deadline for Imaging Apartheid: The Poster Project for Palestine is March 20th, 2011, two weeks away! We are looking for 21 of the best posters addressing Israeli Apartheid, with the goal of mounting an international exhibition in order to bridge gaps between artists, activists and the public sphere and bring attention to, and build support against, the cruel injustice in Palestine.
We've received some amazing submissions from around the world thus far and are thirsty for more. Use the form on this page to submit your designs or email them to submission@imagingapartheid.org. We will be printing the selected posters locally in Montreal, so there's no need to worry about printing and shipping, all we need are the digital files. If your poster is selected, we will contact you for the high resolution file.
Please join our Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/imagingapartheid) to stay informed about the project and spread the word widely!
In solidarity,

Join us Monday, Jan. 31st for a Jazz benefit concert in Montreal to build support for Imaging Apartheid: the Poster Project for Palestine. In the next months Imaging Apartheid will be holding a series of concerts to raise funds and reach out to artists concerning the project. Proceeds will support further outreach initiative, printing costs of the selected posters, and costs associated to their eventual exhibition and distribution.
The upcoming concert will feature a trio of extremely talented jazz acts, so please come out and enjoy some music while supporting our project!
Featuring performances by:
Erik Hove – sax | Adrian Vedady – bass | Thom Gossage – drums
Erik Hove is an alto saxophonist known for his energetic playing with many of Montreal's most exciting musicians, as well as with his own award-winning group Soundclash. His trio offers an open-ended setting, with the goal of playing music with an inventive sense of melodic, rhythmic, and structural daring. The band embodies a healthy spirit of experimentation, playing with freedom and unfettered interaction.
* Adam Kinner solo saxophone & guests
Adam Kinner is a saxophonist and composer who has been living in Montreal since 2002. He has performed throughout the U.S, Canada, and Europe with jazz, rock and contemporary music groups. In addition to appearing on more than twenty recordings, he's a regular fixture on the music scenes in Montreal and New York.
* Jason Sharp solo bass saxophone
Jason Sharp is a baritone/bass saxophonist originally from Edmonton, Alberta. He has studied jazz improvisation at the University of Toronto, Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and understudied with the Jazz Composers Collective in New York City. Since moving to Montreal he can be heard in Josh Zubot's Mendham Trio, Sam Shalabi's Land of Kush, Nicolas Caloia's Ratchet Orchestra, Joe Grass's Tiny Dictators as well as on recordings with Matana Roberts and Silver Mt. Zion for the Constellation label.
After due consideration, we (the Imaging Apartheid organizing committee) have decided to extend the submission deadline for posters/designs until March 20th, 2011. Though we've received some excellent submissions thus far, and know that this project is driven by the urgency of the situation in Palestine, we hope the extension will allow us to further extend our appeal to artists and activists internationally, and specially to those artists outside of the traditional spheres of geographic power.
Also, we look forward to spreading the word on the Imaging Apartheid project at the upcoming Quebec – Canada Conference on the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Campaign taking place at UQAM, Montreal, Quebec 22-24th October 2010, we will be distributing materials at the conference & participating in the cultural sector workshops info
